DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

There will be some more Middle School and High School Cross Country foot races this coming Tuesday, September 20th.  Amateur Radio and Non-Amateur Radio operators will be helping with the races.  Doing these kind of activities helps practice for emergencies and disasters.  It also allows the public to learn about Amateur Radio.

Wood County Emergency Communications is getting ready to operate their BINGO games again next weekend.  Tomorrow I will start taking trailers to Mountwood Park, 15 miles east of Parkersburg on Route 50, to set up the equipment for the games.  The Volcano Days festival will run from Friday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 25th.  Volcano Days started as an Engine Show with old gas and steam engines used in the early days of oil wells in West Virginia, and the surrounding areas.  There is no cost to get into the festival.  If you get a chance come see the displays, and stop by the BINGO tent to met some of the local Amateurs.

There were only 31 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Roy Humes, N8ER, needs only one more check-in to make 1000.  Tom Jones, N8NMA, needs only one more check-in to make 250.  I want to welcome Lester Shield, K8LES, back to the net.  Lester has been missing from the net since October 23, 2010.  There was one new participant to the net this week, and that was Levi Anderson, KD8SKZ, from Weirton.  I want to welcome Levi to the DAREN system, and hope he checks into the weekly net as often as possible.  I got an E-Mail from the person who found that his TNC had the wrong callsign in it.  The "NOCALL" station now has his net participation records caught up.  Those things happen from time-to-time.  If it happens to you, just let me know, I'll correct your records, and no one will know who did it.

That's it for this week.  If you have any activities in you area, let me know about them.
