DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I received an E-Mail from Gene Roy, N8ER.  Gene said the Mineral County DAREN NODE/PBBS of MINEWV/KEYSWV is back on the air.  I'm very glad to see it back on the air.  I want to thank Butch Sayers, N8RCG, for getting the station back in operation.  Maybe we will have more check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.

On Saturday, September 12th several Amateur Radio operators will be helping with the Parkersburg/Wood County High School/Middle School Cross Country foot races.  The Amateurs will be assigned to the Mile 1 and Mile 2 locations, and will be operating the race clocks.  A couple of operator will be spotting the runners as they approach the finish line, pass the information on to someone to enter the number into a database.  An announcer will announce their name and school.  The Amateurs will also be providing the 4 Wheeler vehicles with communications so they can respond to any emergencies on the race course.  The races will be held at the 4-H Camp Grounds down near the river, to same locations a the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest (hint, hint).  There will be either 8 or 10 racing events on Saturday, so it will be a long busy day.

On Thursday, September 24th, Wood County Emergency Communications will start setting up their canopy, tables, and chairs to operate BINGO games.  The BINGO games will be held at the Volcano Days Festival from Friday, September 25th through Sunday, September 27th.  Volcano Days will be held at Mountwood Park just off of Rt 50, 15 miles east of Parkersburg.  If you get a chance stop by and check out the festival and the old gas and steam engines.

There were 35 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week.  Gene Roy, N8ER, needs only one more check-in to make 1150.  Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, needs only one more check-in to make 900.  Krista Mills, KC8VLJ, needs only one more check-in to make 600.  And Jerry Strum, KC8SIG, needs only one more check- in to make 300.
