DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
Terry Mills, KC8TUE, wants to remind everyone about the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest that will be coming up on October 12th. He said that he already has door prizes arriving at his doorsteps. He will be making a trip to Columbus in a couple weeks to purchase the main prizes. The Hamfest will be held at the Wood County 4-H Campgrounds on Butcher Bend Road, in Mineral Wells. If you are using Interstate I-77, take Mineral Wells Exit 170, and follow the signs. With the new bridge, that was under construction last year completed, it a little bit shorter to the campgrounds. The distance is only about 4 1/2 miles. The Hamfest officially start at about 8:00 am , but there will be people there all night, and you can go in earlier. There will also be breakfast at about 6:00 am, if you're hungry. I think they said that it is only $2.00, and that coffee is free all day.
The Amateurs in the Wood County area will be providing the safety and logistic communications for the Chic-Fil-A High School/Middle School Cross Country foot races this coming Saturday, September 7th.
Not much else to report for this week. I do need to find some time and go to at least four of the DAREN stations that have been off the air. I need to get to them before winter sets in. The stations that I need to go work on are the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV, Ritchie County Chat Room of CHATRM, the Jackson County NODE of JACKWV/RPLYWV, and the Roane County NODE/PBBS of ROANWV/SPNCWV.
If you have anything that you would like to tell the readers of the DAREN News, sent it to me so can have something write about.
There were only 40 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. MY wife Dot, KC8 HAI , needs only one more check-in to make 850. And my son Kevin needs only one more check-in to make 650. Well, I didn't get started on the certificates this past week like I had planned. Maybe this coming week will be a little bit slower.
