WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS
P.O. BOX 3328, PARKERSBURG, WV 26103
DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
While at a Blue Stone Dam workshop in Charleston this week, I meet with Jim Stephenson, WV8JS, who was also at the workshop. I gave Jim an antenna that will be used on the Kanawha County DAREN NODE/PBBS of KANAWV/CHASWV. Jim is working with the Amateurs and government agencies in Kanawha County to get the station installed at one of their tower sites. It may still be a few weeks before the station gets back on the air. I want to thank Jim for his work getting the station back in operation.
Matt Wright, KD8GWP, and myself will be heading for Pocahontas County on Friday. There is a Search and Rescue exercise at the Boy Scout Camp this coming weekend. The Wood County Emergency Communications group has been asked to help provide communications for the Tyler County Search and Rescue Team. Tom Cooper, WV8TOM, who is the Tyler County Office of Emergency Services Director, contacted me about a month ago and invited the group to the exercise. It's going to be a communication challenge, since the event is located inside of the Green Bank quiet zone. I've been talking to Pat Schaffner, KC8CSE, and Ken Butler, WA8TOX, about the exercise.
That's all I have for this week. If you have anything you want to pass on to others let me know, and we'll put it here in the DAREN News.
There were 54 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Tom Martin, WW8TM, needs only one more check-in to make 749.
